Job Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for a Summer 2023 Intern - Engineering, Avionics at our Redmond, WA location.

After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket and electric propulsion projects. The intern will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with company projects. Summer internships will start in approximately May/June and end in August/September.

Hall Current and Arcjet Thruster propulsion systems are key components of Geo-synchronous Earth Orbit satellites used by our military and commercial satellite service providers. Hall Thruster Propulsion Systems propel interplanetary spacecraft to and from their distant destinations. We are a premier supplier of these enabling propulsion systems. A key component of these systems is the Power Processing Unit (PPU) which converts spacecraft power from solar arrays to propulsion energy used by the Electric Propulsion thrusters. This intern will work in the Avionics Engineering group and will support our engineering team in the successful planning, design, development and qualification of power electronics used for electric propulsion on-board spacecraft.

Essential Functions

30% - Component, sub-system, and/or system level hardware development test planning, test conducting, and data analysis.

25% - Electrical circuit design and construction for hardware testing. Hardware fabrication support, including nonconformance resolution.

25% - Perform engineering circuit analysis as required in support of program tasks.

10% - Coordination of activities with other internal organizations such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test.

10% - Presentation of results at internal and external meetings.

Requirements

Candidate must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Electrical Engineering (or similar major) and returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

3.5 GPA or above

Rising senior standing

Concentration in power conversion

Coursework and knowledge in EE fundamentals, circuit analysis, semiconductor fundamentals and analog power circuits

Working knowledge of typical Microsoft software applications

Familiar with Matlab and/or SPICE software

Solid academic track record of accomplishment

Leadership & teamwork skills

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
22.00 - 33.00 per hour
