The role reports to the Manufacturing Manager - NEMA and is located in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Die Setter you will be responsible for being able to read drawings as well as interpreting various precisions measuring equipment. This job requires very good judgment in planning the sequence of operations when setting up complex machines. Ingenuity and initiative must be used when troubleshooting failed equipment. Considerable physical effort is required when installing and removing a die. A die setter is exposed to noise, grease, oil, vibration and other typical manufacturing conditions. Pay Range is: $22.66 to $28.36 per hour 2nd shift differential .54 cents per hour 3rd shift differential $1.08 cents per hour Benefits include: Retirement Plan Immediate Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Well-Being Program Life Insurance Disability Insurance

Your responsibilities

  • Sets the proper length of all safety hand restraint straps
  • Informs crane operator of material needed for auto press set ups, prior to setting up
  • Notifies material handler of hanging new material on dereeler
  • Sets up all die types including progressive, draw, form, notch etc
  • Establishes uniform clearances of shut height on form and draw dies
  • Assures dies are properly set up and secured in the press
  • Ensures that all guards are in place
  • Inspects all presses for proper brake clutch function, lubrication and operating air pressure
  • Will be required to learn to drive and operate a fork truck to load and unload dies in presses
  • Fills out Press Release Form (QFSL-A001) and has the first part from an installed die checked by Quality Assurance, if part passes inspection Die Setter will sign off on the form and have Supervisor sign off on it
  • Informs the press operator of the particular characteristics of the press and advises them to watch for signs of approaching malfunctioning
  • Performs all duties and functions necessary to operate the job efficiently and productively
  • Must flatten material for auto presses, if needed
  • The Lamination Die Setter must be able to perform these functions in a manner that does not compromise their safety or the safety of coworkers. The die setter must be able to perform these task for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week
  • If an employee is unable to perform these essential functions it is their responsibility to bring this to the attention of their supervisor, manager or Human Resource Manager. In these situations, ABB will discuss and attempt to provide any reasonable accommodations that may be available
Your background

  • High School Diploma
  • Must be able to interpret various measuring devices
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have good people skills
  • Basis knowledge of computers preferred
  • Must be able to lift medium to heavy objects
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts for overtime
  • Will be required to be Forklift certified every 3 years
  • Ability to understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training and hazard communication information. This includes but is not limited to wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, seat belt, safety sleeves and cut resistant gloves when required
  • Must be able to work in confine spaces at times
  • Frequently grip with hands, turn, push, pull, bend and reach above shoulder level while handling heavy loads. This includes lifting/carrying up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and to keep up with the demanding pace of production
  • Possess the dexterity and hand-eye coordination for extensive use of hand tools. Must be able to operate various power tools, and other equipment to complete a variety of complex task. Equipment includes but is not limited to: electric chain hoists, pneumatic tools, hydraulic lift tables, electric and manual pallet jacks, die truck and controls with knobs and buttons. The employee must also have the ability to operate a fork lift
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions. Ability to read, write and use a calculator and a computer. Must also have the ability to operate, read and interpret precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators and to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair press line equipment and die set up issues
  • Effectively communicate technical information to supervisor, tool room personnel, maintenance staff, coworkers and engineering
  • Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the schedules work day
  • Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
