As a Field Services Intern, you will receive valuable on-the-job experience by working side-by-side with a Field Service Technician (FST) mentor. During this paid internship opportunity, you will shadow FST mentors and assist with onsite installation, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of telecommunications products, services and equipment provided to our residential and commercial customers. In this role, you will gain an understanding of how we deliver our products and services on time to our customers and provide exceptional customer service!

Pay: The hourly compensation for this position is $15.00.

Field Service Technicians generally work Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 p.m. local time. Flexible hours and schedules are available, including a start date.

Intern Resources:

Our interns partner with seasoned professionals to help with executing high-priority company projects and day-to-day operational activities.

As an intern, TDS offers you:

    Access to an Intern Associate Resource Group (ARG). This group's purpose is to support you by providing extra resources for development, opportunities for internal advancement, and forums to connect with other interns throughout the company. ARG meets once per month to allow you to hear from other interns about their projects, as well as leaders within our organization about their team. They host networking events to grow your connections within the organization with the goal of finding full-time employment by your graduation.

Responsibilities

What can you expect during your Field Services Internship experience?

In this role, you will:

  • Learn the overall functions of Field Services, and how the business unit impacts our organization.
  • Gain experience in the field through direct mentorship with one of our Technicians.
  • Learn and assist with general customer installations, repairs, and maintenance activities in various weather conditions.
  • Learn about the importance of safe work practices, and how they impact you, the customer, and TDS as an organization.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of outside plant facilities and equipment.
  • Learn about and assist with splicing - a very important skill set in our industry!
  • Learn the functions of our warehouse while assisting with inventory and staging.
  • Learn about software and programming that Technicians use to serve our customers.
  • Gain valuable understanding of the importance of customer service.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.

Other Qualifications

  • This program is ideal, but not required, for students currently enrolled in high school, homeschooling or a GED/Equivalency program
  • Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal.
  • Positive outlook and desire to learn.
  • Ability to be flexible as day-to-day tasks and priorities may change.
  • Reading and writing skills required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The associate is frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.

Associates scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week have access to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off benefits such as vacation (15 days accrued per year for full-time; pro-rated for part-time associates working between 20-39 hours), sick leave (10 days accrued per year for full-time and pro-rated for all other associates), seven paid national holidays and one floating holiday, paid parental leave (2 weeks after 12 months of employment), among others. Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability coverage is also available for associates working 30 or more hours per week and Education Assistance is available to full-time associates. Associates scheduled to work under twenty hours per week or for a limited term (i.e. interns) are eligible for medical coverage, the 401(k) plan (if 18 or older), as well as sick leave (10 days accrued per year for full-time and pro-rated for all other associates).
