Assists in the oral health management of all Dental Center patients.
Records patient/hygienist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for dental patients.
Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center's clinical protocols. May administer local anesthetic if credentialed to do so.
Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.
Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient's health care management.
Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Center protocol and directive.
Participates in appropriate health promotion/disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required.
Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested.
Organizes and performs preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations.
Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
Maintains all areas of compliance with the Dental Center directives and protocols as well as policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues.
Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Center policy. as well as state and federal regulations.
Complies with the Dental Center Exposure Control Plan.
Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and Dental Center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene.
Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the Dental Center as appropriate and as time permits.
Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, Dental Center business and patient care.
As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
Performs and maintains all functions related to the sterilization process in compliance with the Dental Center's directive and protocols.
Insures the sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment in accordance with the Dental Center's directive and protocols.
Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated materials in accordance with the Dental Center's policy as well as state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

5 yrs experience in a busy dental office.
Education Minimum Required

Graduate of accredited School of Dental Hygiene.
Training Minimum Required

Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
Special Skills Minimum Required

Requires a comprehensive knowledge of oral hygiene in outpatient settings.
Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern oral hygiene and periodontal patient care.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
Licensure and/or Certifications Required
