WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, Gates looks for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. We are seeking an initiative-taking individual to join us in Denver to work on various projects that support our global environmental activities.
  • This is an exciting opportunity for you because you will be exposed to environmental compliance and program management in a corporate environment.
  • You will be part of the Environmental Affairs team in the Legal Department.
  • You will be supporting global environmental and chemical compliance projects.
  • You will be merging, analyzing, and summarizing data for reporting.
  • You will obtain experience working with business professionals and focused on career development.
Key responsibilities (including but not limited too):

  • Analyzing existing environmental performance metrics and partnering with site-based management to identify opportunities for improving data completeness, accuracy, and efficiency of data collection process. (example: identifying an anomaly, such as a higher than usual waste volume, or gap in the environmental reporting data and reach out to the site or regional manager to assist with fixing the error).
  • Working with cross functional teams, business functions and stakeholders to identify and improve our environmental performance monitoring and regulatory compliance. (examples: Reach out and contact facility representatives to update facility information to be used in an online platform; work with an individual site to help documenting their waste streams inventories and disposition options, look for new or innovative ways to assist a site or region with resource conservation ideas).
  • Learning and evaluating Gates HSE platforms to assist in reporting and compliance aspects. (Such as adding or updating information in our HSE and chemical management online platform, review environmental questionnaires for applicability, update tables and forms with environmental metrics for review and approval).
  • Assisting with the assessments/calculations and prioritization of opportunities related to energy conservation, water usage, waste minimization.
  • Researching and assessing applicability of product and environmental regulations though chemical analysis and government reports (Such as TCSA reporting requirements and impacts pertaining to materials used by Gates, California Proposition 65 updates and potential impacts on labeling requirements for products sold in California; Reviewing REACH updates and forecasting EU changes anticipated to be implemented in the coming years; researching global Microplastic point sources and upcoming regulatory requirements ).
  • Assisting with chemical compliance and site based chemical inventories. Looking at and assessing SDS sheets for chemicals, risks various requirements listed therein.
  • Updating, editing, and organizing Gates internal environmental procedures with references and links to supporting tools.

ABOUT YOU

  • Pursuing a master's or bachelor's degree; preferably with a focus in environmental aspects, we will consider candidates pursuing science, business, computer science or law related degree sets.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel (ability to manipulate spreadsheets)
  • Adaptive learner in pulling data and reports from different management information systems.
  • Communicate with internal and external entities.
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Individual must be an energetic self-starter and team player.
  • Ability to work independently and interact well with all levels of the organization.
  • Work at the Denver office in person.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • Potential to travel to support a US based site-based project or activities (Not Likely, but possible)
PAY & BENEFITS

  • Summer Internship - Hourly Rate between $20.00-$25.00
  • Not eligible for employee benefits
  • 40 hours a week
